Returning to the ship before the students is also an important ritual for me. We always meet other people returning, and I call it the side-by-side time with students where I interact with them in a non-crisis way. It is great to hear of the adventures people have had, to see the exhaustion and joy, and to learn a lot about their stories. The paths to get to Semester at Sea are varied.
The tug boat to guide us around to exit Southampton Harbor.
Leaving the urban landscape.
The last of the day’s light as we set out to sea.
One day on the ship, and then we wake up in Antwerp.
