London

There is a tradition that we are trying to maintain, that we wake up to see the ship pull into port. The pilot boat brings the port pilot out to our ship to guide us in. We had used a tender at Galway, but now pull up to the dock for ease of disembarking and coming and going.

Sunrises and sunsets are my favorite part of the day, and i try to wake up or schedule myself free according to the sun. With the many hours we have turned the clocks forward, some mornings are more difficult than others to meet the day.

Faculty, staff, and lifelong learners have a lounge on the 7th deck. The faculty are a fun bunch off the ship, but working really hard in the midst of teaching and prep work for their courses. Most have 3 classes that include fieldtrips, and I remember that I had thought initially I might want to teach a course on this voyage as well as hold the clinical position. I am very happy that I did not try for that option, because I am getting a little busier, and the intensity of fast sails and frequent stops brings on its own challenges. It is good to be going into a city I already know on this stop.

Near the tracks in the south part of London. There was a lot of evidence of the 2012 Olympics, and also exciting, the Paralympics were occurring, so the posters around town highlighted participants, and we saw differently abled kids and adults everywhere being a vital part of the community.

Another lovely observation was people reading books and papers in transport.
